Shockwaves & Wilwoods

Shockwaves & Wilwoods

BJ’s ’62 Impala was an already nice specimen when it came to us, but we’re glad that he trusted us to take his car to the next level. In order to get the stance just right, we looked to RideTech’s Level 2 kit made just for the ’62 Impala. This kit installed beautifully, as all control arms, bags, compressor, and hardware fit together as we wish all aftermarket components would. The icing on this slammed ride is the RidePro E3 digital controller, which allows you to monitor and select ride height with user-defined presets. It works very well and takes the awkwardness out of trying to dial in the height before you cruise in or cruise out. As for stoppers, we took 12+ inch Wilwood Dynalites and anointed each corner with far better stopping potential. Wilwood kits install smoothly and the results speak for themselves. In order for the much lower car to sit lower without interference, we installed a new custom exhaust system and tucked the mufflers up out of the way. The result is super clean and really makes all angles of this car nice. 1942 Plymouth Overhaul

1942 Plymouth Overhaul

Lance bought his 1942 example about 30 years ago and has dreamed of a day when he could just get in the car and drive it reliably. So, he trusted us to overhaul most of his ride and bring it up to speed. We started with replacing the front drum brakes with an ECI disc brake conversion kit and dual master cylinder. We replaced the transmission, driveshaft, and rear end with a GM T5 5-speed, a one piece shaft, and a 1990 Dodge Dakota rear end with integrated parking brakes. The exhaust is now new and a single glasspack gives the flat-head six a warm tone. Up top, we installed a mini-HEI electronic distributor with new coil, plugs, and wires. The charging system is lead by a Powermaster PowerGEN alternator that has the appearance of an original generator. The wheels are now powdercoated red and the stance is lowered about three inches. A new wiring harness now resides in the bones of the car and makes sure that everything is getting proper power. Mechanically and electrically, this car is now in top shape and Lance can hit the highway with confidence. Thank you Lance for letting us work on your car! Below are some before and after shots. 1958 Impala Sway Bar Upgrade

1958 Impala Sway Bar Upgrade

Some upgrades are hard to justify, while others are not. In the case of this 1958 Impala, Bill allowed us to add a simple upgrade that was easy to justify because of the high return on investment. We hoisted the car and got to work installing the new oversized front and rear anti-sway bars offered by Hellwig Suspension. After the install, we replaced the old shocks with new Monroe Sensatrac shocks. The result is night and day: corners are now flat and predictable. The new shocks coupled with stock spring rates equal great ride quality. In this case, you can have tight cornering without sacrificing a smooth ride. Thanks to Bill for having us install these...
1950 Hudson Commodore

1950 Hudson Commodore

Hudson cars are thoroughly designed and have features that other companies didn’t adopt until a decade or more later. For example, it is a unibody car. Yes it looks like it has a frame, but the frame is part of the body. The rear suspension is triangulated leaf spring! The brakes have a fail safe mechanical linkage to the emergency brake should the single master cylinder fail. The wiring has welded-on harness fasteners every 6-8 inches. The overdrive is sophisticated, even by today’s standards. Aaron brought us his very clean example of a 1950 Hudson Commodore needing some basic repairs. The car now has a brand new wire harness front to back. The transmission is resealed thanks to Ray Harrison and the overdrive system is rewired. Ignition is now electronic and charging system is new 12 volt. Audio inside is handled by Secret Audio and no sign of a modern AM/FM/USB/IPOD head unit can be seen. Mike custom stitched new black carpet for the interior. The vacuum wipers work very well thanks to Ficken Wiper Service. While the car worked well before, it is now updated and ready for many more years of use! We thank Aaron for allowing us to work on his beautiful Hudson...
Some Nomad Details

Some Nomad Details

A car’s engine bay should reflect the exterior and interior of the car. Bob brought us his car and allowed us to clean up some cosmetics under hood. We didn’t pull the engine. We didn’t redo a lot. BUT, we did paint a few parts, replaced a few hoses and rearranged a few small items. Now, when the hood is open, the engine is the center of attention and doesn’t distract from the great presence that the car has. Inside, we repaired a section of carpet and installed new seat belts. We painted a 15 inch replica Bel Air wheel and installed in the stead of the older LeCarra. Out back we took the three-piece stock bumper, welded it up, and had Art Brass finish it with their show chrome. In the end, a car is made up of details. If those details come together in the right way it can take a car to the next level. Thanks to Bob for having us work on his car! See below for a few...
Chevrolet C10 Upgrades!

Chevrolet C10 Upgrades!

Chevrolet pickups are extremely popular, so it’s no wonder that this ’68 C10 is such a people pleaser. With new paint and upholstery, Bob brought us his truck for some engine bay cosmetic upgrades and new wiring throughout. The engine now has with new fuel, cooling, and igntion systems. After removing the engine and resealing it, the engine now has body-matched paint. All new wiring is courtesy of a Painless harness for a 67-72 Chevrolet truck. The brake booster/master cylinder combo is from CPP and improves pedal feel dramatically. Undercar, the exhaust is all new, starting with Hedman Elite headers and ending with Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow mufflers. We thank you Bob for allowing us to work on this great truck!
